Abstract
This essay analyzes Andrés Reséndez’s new award winning book, The Other Slavery: The Uncovered Story of Indian Enslavement in America (2016), and takes stock of the analytical, historiographical, and conceptual contributions made in the book. I then turn to a historical context beyond the scope of Reséndez’s study—the Ecuadorian Amazon—in order to highlight how Reséndez’s conceptualization of the ‘other slavery’ can be productively engaged.
